Recently I was very kindly given some Burt’s Bees products to road test, and amongst them I was ecstatic to find some of their lip colours. I already rate Burt’s Bees lip balms highly and had been excited to try the lip colours that recently launched so I couldn’t wait to dig in and pass my verdict on these.
The ones will review today are the Lip Shimmers* (RRP £5.99). As with the lip balms these are 100% natural but add a splash of intense, glossy colour.
Containing Shea Butter, Vitamin E,
Beeswax and antioxidant-rich Sunflower and Coconut Oils these moisturise, nourish and soften lips. They come in 11 shimmering shades including apricot, strawberry, cherry and caramel.
I tried Apricot here and when I swatched it on my hand (above) I wasnt sure whether it would be very noticeable on my darker lips. As you can see however, the Lip Shimmer does have a good colour payoff, which I found especially surprising for such a moisturising, balm-like formula.
The next one a tried was Cherry – A lovely red that added just enough colour to the lips without being heavy.
I then tried Caramel, which is more of a neutral. It does have a delicate gold shimmer to it which I couldn’t capture very well on my photo. It would look great in the evening in conjunction with a smokey eye.
The next one I used was strawberry. This was probably my least favourite as it is quite a cool, frosted shade which I don’t think suited my skintone.
I’m not a huge fan of lipsticks normally as I often find them drying or I become self concious that they’ll wear off or transfer leaving my lip colour looking uneven. These Lip Shimmers are a great halfway house as they have the feel of a balm but with the colour of a lipstick.
They are really comfortable to wear and fantastic for summer months when you still want a dash of colour but don’t want the feel of a heavy or drying lipstick. With their compact, slim size they can be slipped easily into your pocket to use as required.
The only possible negatives I could think of are that the Lip Shimmers aren’t the most long-wearing of lip colours, but in all honesty I expected to have to reapply them and I they are such a pleasure to wear that I don’t mind. Secondly the Peppermint oil, which lends a flavour and gives a slight cooling sensation to the lips, may not be to everyone’s liking, but I prefer to know the formulas are packed with natural oils rather than synthetic ingredients so I don’t dislike the Peppermint flavour.
If you fancy trying any of the Burt’s Bees lip colours, including these, now is a great time as they’re offering a 20% discount on lip products bought through their website.
