Every so often I will try a product and think “why didn’t I know about you sooner”, and when that happens with a bath product it’s even more special. You see i’m usually pretty non-plussed by most showergels and scrubs – they do a job and since it all gets washed away anyway the requirement for them to blow my socks just isn’t there. Adequate will suffice, especially as a busy mum who tends not to indulge in long, luxurious baths very often!
Nougat London is a brand I’ve heard of for their fashion line, but I didn’t actually know that they had a range of bodycare, so when they sent me a pair of products from their Naturals range to review I was very pleased. I love natural products, especially ones packed with essential oils, but I did wonder whether the products may just be sailing on the success of the Nougat London name, and if, like so many other fashion houses foray into beauty, they would be more style than substance.
As I expected from a fashion label both the Refining Body Scrub Calming & Relaxing and the Intensive Body Oil Uplift & Revive I was sent to sample were packaged beautifully inside sturdy cardboard boxes that also had a gorgeous, patterned interior. The packaging boasted that the products were free from Parabens, Sulphates, Petrochemicals, Glycol, PEGs and Colour, as well as being suitable for vegetarians and vegans, so that was another box ticked. But what of the actual contents?
First up the Refining Body Scrub (200ml, £18) which filled my bathroom with a heady fragrance courtesy of its essential oils of Sandalwood, Chamomile, Jasmine and Lavender. The scrub contains an organic compound derived from Coconut Oil and exfoliating particles of Olive Seed to buff away dull skin and cleanse the skin. Additionally extracts of Basil and Cucumber soothe and soften the skin, and Green Tea Extract, full of antioxidants, helps inhibit collagen degradation.
I loved the fact that this scrub also produced a gentle lather meaning it was very cleansing. I’d usually use a scrub and a seperate shower gel so this felt like I was killing two birds with one stone – bonus! My skin felt thoroughly cleansed and renewed yet wasn’t taut or overly stripped.
After my wonderful shower I dried and used the Intensive Body Oil (100ml, £14). I could definitely detect the citrus notes from the blend of Bergamot, Lemon Myrtle, Grapefruit, Ginger and Lemongrass essential oils and it smelt divine. If you’re not a fan of body oils then this one is perhaps not for you however as it is quite heavy – but with my dry skin drinking up any moisture it comes across the intensive shot of moisture this body oil provided was extremely welcome. The blend of Sweet Almond Oil and Argan Oil really softened and hydrated my parched skin, and while the oil initially felt quite thick it soon massaged in, leaving a glowing sheen. This would also make the most amazing massage oil with its uplifting fragrance.
So there you go, this range definitely walks the walk and rather than simply looking pretty the formulations definitely pack a punch too! All in all i’m pretty darn in love with this impressive range and already have some of the other products on my wish list.
