Welcome once again to my weekly run down of everything I’ve been up to over the past seven days and what a busy week it’s been!
On Monday I heard on the grapevine that the Birchbox Spoiler had been revealed so I shared it for my readers. I also tried one of the polishes from So Susan Lacquer Love box. With the weather looking decidedly iffy I stuck an apron on and using some very overripe bananas baked a banana loaf with my little one (her favourite part as always was licking the spoon)! Following on, still in domestic goddess mode, I made a lasagne for tea.
In the evening the brass band I play in performed at Towneley Hall for Burnley’s Lights Out event, which commemorated the outbreak of the First World War. It was a stunning setting for such a poignant event.
On Tuesday we did some more baking; this time vanilla cupcakes, to which I added some Chia seeds. They tasted great but despite following the recipe in my Hummingbird Bakery book to the letter my cupcakes always look flat – if anyone has any suggestions I’d love to hear them! The Love Me Beauty boutique opened but I wasn’t overly impressed and have chosen to skip the box, meaning there will sadly be one less beauty box landing on my doorstep this month.
To escape the house I took C into town on Wednesday where I got a few beauty bargains in Boots clearance and from the pound shops. She loves swatching all the eyeshadows testers from the cosmetic stands – like mother like daughter! While we were out I treated her to a very rare McDonald’s Happy Meal. It’s lovely spending the day with her shopping and eating out, hopefully it will be something she still enjoys when she’s a teenager! When I got home my August You Beauty Box was waiting for me so that rounded the day off nicely!
On Thursday I had a lovely, indulgent shower using the Nougat Naturals range. Nougat are offering a 20% discount for my readers so do check my review of their products out! My friend and her little boy came round that afternoon for a play date, it was great to chat while the little ones played together. I also decided to paint C’s child-size wooden table and chairs that i’d bought a couple of years ago from a flea market. Having been stored in her playhouse outside it was looking rather tired but after a couple of coats of white satin paint it looks so much better and it will be moved into her bedroom.
We are quite lucky as my husband only works a half-day on Friday so gets home around midday. We had a pub lunch then did a little bit of shopping and picked up a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate the promotion my husband found out he’d got on Monday. I squeezed in a quick haircut but only had a bit taken off to neaten it up because I’m aiming to grow out my crop.
On Saturday my parents drove over from Sheffield to spend the day with us – cue another pub lunch, oops! We had a walk up to Towneley Hall in the afternoon and C played in the park. The weather was nice but you can definitely see sun isn’t as high and the nights are drawing in! Before bed I had to pop on a Dream Dot (review here) as another spot had erupted on my chin. I find if you slap on a patch early enough they clear up really quickly.
Last but not least it was my friends’ daughter’s joint 1st Birthday & Baptism on Sunday afternoon so we headed up to the Lakes where that was happening. It was really windy and rainy when we left home but fortunately it wasn’t quite as bad when we reached Kendal and a lovely day was had. We arrived back home shortly before C’s bedtime, so it was straight upstairs for a bath and bedtime story, then we had a relaxing evening with a couple of beers.
It’s been an incredibly busy week and the days have flown by – roll on the end of the month when my husband has a week off and we’re set to have a few days’ holiday at our friend’s caravan!
Did you get up to anything interesting this week?
