Birchbox – August Review

My eagerly awaited August Birchbox has landed on my doorstep really quickly this month and has certainly brightened up what’s a pretty miserable Monday!

The theme of the August Birchbox is Away We Go and as Birchbox had already revealed each subscriber would get a cute cosmetics case, perfect for packing those summer holiday essentials. Being honest I wasn’t overly excited by the spoiler I’d seen, but as they say never judge a book by its cover, and having delved into my box I can actually say I am really pleased with what I’ve received and also very excited as each brand is a completely new discovery for me!

Vasanti Brighten Up Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator 20ml (RRP £26) – Firstly I was presented with an exfoliating cleanser from Canadian brand, Vansanti. I love my natural products and this one is 99% natural, full of Papaya, Coconut and Aloe Vera. Birchbox have obviously paid attention to my profile so full marks there!

Number 4 Prep & Protect Spray 30ml (RRP £20, 190ml) – This is a definite travel essential, protecting the hair not only from heat but the ravages of salt and chlorinated water. Once again Number 4 is not a brand I’ve used before although I have seen it feature in some previous boxes. Vegan and Coeliac friendly, this American-made product is also free from parabens and sulphates.

Supergoop Daily Correct CC Cream 2 × 3ml (RRP £32, 47ml) – I love switching from a foundation to a lightweight CC cream in summer and with broad spectrum SPF 35 Supergoop sounds like a perfect option for holidaying in sunnier climes. I’m looking forward to seeing how this CC cream fares over my regular brands.

Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter full size (RRP £15.95) – I’ve only ever used Benefit’s High Beam or a powder highlighter before so I’m intregued by this chunky pencil. Suitable for use on the brow- and cheekbones, as well as the inner corners of the eye, this pencil doesn’t have a shimmer so will be perfect for a subtle, pared down daytime look.

Nude ProGenius Treatment Oil 5ml (RRP £58, 30ml) – This is a nourishing facial oil packed full of Omega Oils to hydrate and smooth the skin. Free from parabens, mineral oils, silicones, synthetic perfumes and sulphates this French facial oil sounds amazing and I can’t wait to add it to my skincare regime!

This month the lifestyle extra is a chapter from The Proposal, a romantic noval by Tasmina Perry. You can’t beat a book for a bit of poolside reading or just to pass the time waiting to board your plane, so this fits the theme well, I just can’t help but wish we’d got a complete story.

On first impressions this may not appear to be the most exciting box, but on closer inspection these are incredible sounding products from interesting brands and – most importantly of all – are very usable! What do you think to the product selection? If you’re a subscriber what did you get?

If you’d love to get your hands on this months box or just want to find out more you can use my referral link here and if you decide to subscribe we both get 50 points (the equivalent of £5) to spend in the Birchbox shop!

I can’t use anything on my waterline, but I’ll make use of it elsewhere 🙂 My last couple of months I received my box quite late so I was shocked when I found it on my doorstep this morning! Hope yours isn’t too far behind! X
