Our Tiny Bees Über Balm

As an avid gardener I love three things; natural products, companies with a good ethos and who care for the environment, and a great multi purpose balm. Based in my home town Sheffield, Our Tiny Bees ticks the first two boxes, but also amongst their impressive range of natural products including body scrub, face mask, and lip balm, they produce a pretty awesome balm to boot – aptly named Über Balm*. I was stupidly excited when they sent me this balm to review and the timing is more than perfect given that September is Organic Beauty Month.

So how did I get on with this little pot of balm? Let me first set the scene; i’m in the garden potting up plants bare-handed. No matter how often I’ve tried in the past I just cannot use gardening gloves, even though I should; I find them bulky and definitely not what you need when handling tender seedlings or teasing out roots. As a result of compost being so drying my hands always end up resembling those of someone who’s just spent a shift down the pit – extremely dry and cracked.

Hardworking hands!

This was the case just a few days ago when I decided not only to repot some plants but demolish a garden wall. Our Tiny Bees came to the rescue with their amazing Über Balm which soon helped restore my hands to their former glory. Easy to rub in and light, yet extremely hydrating, it didn’t irritate any areas of scratched skin and it really helped to smooth my ragged cuticles. Free from synthetic fragrance there is the slightest scent from the British honey, which is ever so comforting.

Über Balm (45g, RRP £7.95) is a 100% natural, fragrance-free balm with a myriad of uses and works gently to heal and sooth dry, damaged skin. Packed full of calming ingredients with powerful anti-inflammatory properties the balm is great for use on lips, hands, feet, elbows, knees – anywhere that needs help – is is particularly suitable for those with sensative skin and dry skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

Über Balm contains only a few ingredients, but all of them perform important jobs (there are no unnecessary ingredients used to bulk out the formula):
Almond oil – Rich in vitamins A, E and D, and also contains linoleic and oleic acids.
Beeswax – Forms a protective layer on the skin.
Honey – A natural moisture retainer.
Vitamin E – An antioxidant that protects and repairs your skin.
Oat Protein – offers softening, soothing, and anti-inflammatory benefits.
Rosehip seed oil – Contains vitamin A, a natural antioxidant which is particularly good for use on oily skin, sensitive skin and problem skin.

As well as working directly with British beekeepers who supply 100% British honey and wax for use in the products Our Tiny Bees also keep their own bees and understand from groundlevel up the importance of protecting our bees. All the essential oils used are English and the aluminium tins made by a UK manufacturer.

Our Tiny Bees pride themselves in supporting local retailers and their products adorn the shelves of. a number of small, independent retailers around the UK. If you don’t have a stockist nearby however you can also buy products directly via their online store with free delivery, and currently if you spend £20 online you will get a free lip balm too!

This sounds like a wonderful company and I wish them every success. Next time I’m in my native Sheffield I will definitely be popping into the Bird’s Yard to see what other goodies I can get my hands on (the amazing sounding Bath Melts and Hand Balm are next on my list)!
