This is my second Tag of the week and this time it’s the Five Product Makeup Challange. This is a fairly easy one for me; as a busy mum I often wear minimal makeup and have even *shock horror* gone without!
I was tagged by the lovely Angie from Chocolate and Lipstick (go check her blog out – it’s fabulous) and the aim is pretty self explanatory; you may use only 5 products to create a wearable look. I went for a “lunch date” look – a simple makeup base that wouldn’t look out of place in the office, but with the optional addition of a bold lipstick could translate into a lunch date or post-work drinks with the girls!
For my base I used a sample I received recently of the new YSL Ink Fusion foundation (£30.50). Unfortunately as I threw out the accompanying card I don’t actually recall the shade I was matched to, which is a pain in the **** as I love this foundation so it will definitely be a repurchase. Ink Fusion Foundation has a liquid formula, with medium coverage and a matte finish. It still manages to look natural though, which is a quality I always look for in a foundation – I hate to look too “made up”.
I then moved on to my cheeks using Rimmel’s Stay Blushed in Sunkissed Cherry (£4.49) which has a mousse to powder texture. Blusher is one of my must-haves and this one is particularly easy to use as you can apply it with only your fingers. I’ve always liked these sort of blushers, in fact I used to get Clinique’s mousse blusher until it was discontinued. This product is highly pigmented so a little goes a long way and if you’re too heavy handed you can end up looking like Coco the Clown. Use it sparingly though and Stay Blushed is a lovely blusher.
Next up I chose my trusty HD Brow palette in Foxy (£25). I always feel more groomed when I’ve defined my brows so this had to be one of the products I chose. Also having four seperate colours the palette can double up as eyeshadows so I swept a little bit across my lid. I love a cheeky duel purpose product!
I finished off my eyes with They’re Real Mascara from Benefit (£19.50). I hardly ever go without mascara and even when I’m in rush I have to reach for a slick of mascara. I think this is running out though as it didn’t have as much impact as usual and the resulting lash isn’t as smooth and dramatic. Never fear; I have a few other minis in my stash.
Finally for a splash of colour and because I don’t tend to wear bright lips I chose OFRA’s Liquid Lipstick in Hollywood ($19). This goes on smoothly and feels very hydrating like a gloss, but then sets leaving colour that lasts. I can confirm this stays even after eating making it perfect for a dinner date or post-work drinks!
And here is the finished look!
Ordinarily if I hadn’t been confined to five products I’d have used an under-eye concealer just to brighten the eye area up, as well as a concealer to disguise the spot you can still see on my jawline. If I was going out after work I’d definitely have added eyeliner too!
So now, I tag the fabulous Erin Louise Hunt who’s blog I love and who’s look will no doubt involve using one of her many MAC lippies!
