Birchbox – October Review

This October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and very aptly Birchbox have partnered with CoppaFeel, a charity whose mission is to stamp out late detection of breast cancer. As soon as they announced this collaboration I was very excited; Birchbox and CoppaFeel already paired up earlier this year to bring us the very successful Manithon, so I knew the October box would be another great partnership.

As well as supporting this great cause by donating £1 for each new subscriber during October, this month we have the theme “Work It”. As Summer draws to a close and the busy Christmas season approaches Birchbox’s aim is bring you all the essentials required to make this hectic time of year a little more manageable! So what is tucked away in my box this month?

With their natural ethos Balance Me is one of my all time favourite skincare ranges so i’m happy to see the first item is a generous 40ml sized Balance Me Cleanse and Smooth Face Balm (Full Size 125ml RRP £20).

The wondrously soft formula of this balm includes tiny grains of oatmeal to gently slough away dead skin cells, while shea and cocoa butter, softening rosehip, camellia, and virgin coconut oils provide a layer of skin-boosting goodness. Used in conjunction with a muslin cloth this is perfect for removing daily grime and make-up.

The next item is a travel sized KMS California HAIR PLAY Dry Wax (Full Size RRP £15.50). This revolutionary new dry wax spray from KMS California helps you achieve a “perfectly undone” look with tousled definition and a matte finish. The unique formula builds body and texture and will be perfect for my cropped hair as it grows out.

I received the KMS California Quick Blow Dry spray earlier this month in my Lookfantastic box so this will be a perfect partner.

Next up is a product all subscribers would receive in one of two available shades. The Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm (RRP £8.00) is packed with lip loving ingredients such as shea butter and Vitamin E and is a full sized item. The balm itself is soothing, hydrating balm and feels very comfortable on the lips. The smell is delicious; reminiscent of Cadbury Mini Eggs!

I’m a newbie to the Pixi range, although I have been lusting after some of their products from afar, so I was really pleased to see it was a brand that Birchbox were featuring. I received the shade Honey Nectar which is a sheer nude shade – very me! The other shade was Ripe Raspberry which also sounds lovely and I may have to purchase from the Birchbox shop!

My fourth item is from a brand completely new to me; Meaningful Beauty, which was formed over 10 years ago and is the brainchild of a collaboration between Dr. Sebagh and Cindy Crawford. My box contains a week’s supply Meaningful Beauty Wrinkle Smooth Capsules (Full Size 60 Capsules RRP £39.95). These targeted capsules hold a highly concentrated formula packed with radiance-boosting ingredients like jojoba seed and glycerin to plump and firm ageing skin. The smoothing serum targets fine lines around tell-tale areas like the eyes, mouth and forehead.

Another item that seems to have popped up in everyone’s box is a sample sized bottle of Shaveworks The Cool Fix (Full Size RRP £11). With its cooling ingredients natural exfoliators of glycolic and salicylic acid, this blue gel is used post-shave and targets ingrown hairs, razor bumps and razor burn, and works to take down redness and soothe irritation.

I’m not sure this is a product I’d purchase personally but I have been on the look out for a decent shaving cream so I may try the matching Shaveworks Pearl Soufflé Shave Cream.

Our Lifestyle Extra this month is the pink Birchbox Lipstick Pen; a handy addition to anyone’s handbag. I’m always scrabbling around trying to find a pen in the dark recesses of my bag, so hopefully this distinctive pen will be easier to lay my hands on!

Last but not least all the items in the October box are tucked neatly in a baby pink make-up bag which really finishes off the box perfectly. Made of quite a thick canvas-type material it really is great quality and the perfect size for tucking inside a bag.

As well as the great line up of beauty essentials from well known and new brands, the box also includes a leaflet detailing information to ensure that we all know the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, know what our boobs look and feel like normally, and have the confidence to visit our GP with any concerns. It’s great to see Birchbox championing this very important cause.

The samples this month are decent sizes and are a good variety. Along with the cute lifestyle additions and well executed theme i’m very happy with my box. Birchbox definitely seem to be leading the pack when it comes to curating exciting, well put together boxes, and everytime one lands on my doormat i’m filled with glee! I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for us!
