Elasticizer by renowned Trichologist Philip Kingsley is probably the most raved about hair product in the beauty world. A pre-shampoo treatment, Elasticizer was originally created for Audrey Hepburn who was looking for a hair treatment that would be super moisturising whilst repairing her hair and keeping it in great condition through the frequent colouring and styling her would go through on film sets.
I must hold my hands up and admit that although Elasticizer had been on my radar for a number of years, it is only earlier this year that I took the plunge and sampled this now cult classic.
Although it is described as an intensive moisturising treatment, Elasticizer has quite a light, odourless texture that is easy to work through the hair. The treatment is designed to be applied generously to damp hair, before shampooing, and left for at least 20 minutes to work its magic before shampooing and conditioning the hair as normal. It is recommended that you wear a plastic shower cap that comes with it as the heat created allows the mask to work to maximum effect, although if I’m on the school run and wearing Elasticizer I do forgo this step! For an even more intensive treatment you can leave it on your hair overnight.
Using Elasticizer approximately once a week I’ve really noticed an improvement in the overall condition of my hair which feels smoother and looks glossier. I’m also finding a lot less hair in the bristles of my brush after styling, so I think breakage is much less of an issue. My hair tends to get greasy if I use heavy products and in the past I’ve tended to shy away from using hair masks, which I found often weighed my hair down and left it feeling lank. I’m pleased to report that the Elasticizer does none of these things; it leaves my hair silky soft but with absolutely no greasiness or heavy residue.
As i’m growing my hair out from a short crop its condition is of paramount concern and I really want to maintain my hairs health and vitality. Elasticizer is really helping in that aim and I will definitely be continuing my weekly treatments.
You can purchase Elasticizer in various sizes from 75ml (£15) right up to a 1 litre Salon Size (£75) direct from Philip Kingsley as well as a number of well known retailers including John Lewis and Feel Unique.
