Memebox Special #60 Oil Therapy

My latest Memebox to arrive all the way from Korea is the Special #60 Oil Therapy, which I ordered along with the Scrub 2 box as a value set.

With this box Memebox promised “rich oil blends to help soothe the tired mind, skin, hair, and body” and that “this wonderful Oil Therapy box can be used all over – hair, body, skin and nails – or even use as part of a pampering massage to soothe and repair!” Along with Scrub 2 I figured the boxes would make an amazing duo; exfoliating and sloughing of dead skin with the scrubs before embarking on replenishing moisture and smoothing the skin with luxurious oils. The whole spa experience. I was really excited for their arrival!

Sadly while the Scrub Box is all I expected the Oil Therapy falls quite short and even though all of the products are usable I think many of them don’t quite fulfil the brief for reasons i’ll explain individually.

Holika Holika Pig Nose Clear (25g, $8)
This is a balm with a light zesty fragrance, which upon contact with the skin melts into an oil, softening and lifting the dirt that blocks pores. Pink clay extracts oil and blackheads deep within the pores, whilst lemon extract clarifies and smooths out the skin’s surface, and aloe vera leaf extract soothes inflamed skin and shrinks enlarged pores. This is sounds like a great product but one I’d have expected to see in the Blackheads No More or Free From Oil & Trouble boxes, and it’s not exactly the sort of product that springs to mind when I think of “exquisite essential oil blends”. Nevertheless it’s a product i’ll definitely make use of to help clear up those pesky blackheads we all suffer from time to time.

Pro You Eucalyptus Oil (10ml, $24)
Well I can’t deny it this is an oil but it’s not one that’s incredibly exciting. Although it’s described on the contents card as a facial oil I won’t use neat Eucalyptus oil on my face, but it is a useful oil, particularly at this time of the year as it has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and is very good for sinus problems.

Cheek Room Lip & Eye Makeup Remover (100ml, $12)
This is a dual phase makeup remover containing cyclomethicone and rosewater, which removes waterproof makeup. Although it doesn’t have the wow factor it is a product I will make use of and dual-phase makeup removers are my favourite type so I will be very interested to see how this stands up to Clinique’s Take The Day Off which I’m currently using. I do think Memebox missed the opportunity to send us a really great cleansing oil though.

Pro You Aroma Vita Oil (165ml, $37)
Now we’re getting there, this is the sort of multi-use body oil I really hoped would feature in the box. Containing Camellia and Jojoba oil it is really moisturising yet is rapidly absorbed, and the light citrus aroma is lovely. I think this is possibly my favourite product in the box.

Migabee Verbena Oil Serum (30ml, $29)
This is another welcome product and again it is the kind of product I expected. A lovely facial oil containing Verbena oil, this is a non-greasy, soothing, brightening and anti-aging treatment. Providing intense hydration, protection, and rejuvenation it also aims to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for soft, radiant skin.

Bobbish Luminous Body Facial Mist (100g, $8)
This luminous facial oil mist is formulated with hydrating argan oil and its non-greasy, micro-mist penetrates quickly and deeply, sending moisture deep into the skin. You can simply spritz this on bare skin or over the top of makeup for an instant pick me up anytime and anywhere. I have a few facial mists and in summer I always keep one in the fridge and one by my bed as they’re so refreshing.

For just $29 I got six full size products with a total value of $118 so I cannot grumble at the value of this box, I just would have liked to have seen the brief being fulfilled slightly better. I think the addition of a hair oil, cuticle oil and luxurious bath oil would really have made this box magical for me. Although individually the items are all very usuable, as a whole box the theme is less successful.

Did you get the Oil Therapy box? I’d love to know your thoughts!
