I was tagged to do this post by Angie of Chocolate & Lipstick and it’s funny she should mention in her post that she’s been unwell and not feeling the Christmas spirit because I too have been ill. In fact all 3 of us have been coughing and spluttering since the beginning of December and I’m pretty sick of it right now.
Anyway, the realisation hit me a couple of nights ago, whilst cleaning up after a poorly daughter who was sick 3 times in bed, that I only had just over a week to get ready for Christmas and apart from decorating I’ve pretty much done nada. So the following day I dragged my ass into town and bought a few bits. Consequently i’m feeling a little calmer and a little more festive*, so with a glass of port in hand it’s time to do the 15 Festive Favourites Tag!
1. Favourite Festive Food
Lebkuchen; they remind me of Christmas in Germany.
2. Favourite Reindeer
All of them? Ok, Blitzen has a pretty cool name I guess.
3. Favourite Day of Christmas
Strangely it’s the anticipation and excitement on Christmas Eve I love most of all. The house is tidy, the presents wrapped, veg and turkey prepped ready for the morning and we can relax before heading out to Christmas Eve Mass. When we come back we sprinkle reindeer food outside with C before putting her to bed. Then we arrange the presents under the tree before relaxing with a drink or two – it’s magical!
4. Favourite Christmas Song
I was brought up on old Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole christmas LPs and the one song that really stuck out for me was The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot. Makes me cry every time! I used to sing in a choir so I also love O Holy Night and Shepherd’s Farewell.
5. Favourite Christmas Present
I probably should say something meaningful but nah, it’s definitely the TV we bought for ourselves this year!
6. Favourite Festive Film
The Snowman – such a simple, yet touching story, and the theme music gives me goosebumps.
7. Favourite Cracker Toy
Am I the only person that thinks crackers are a waste of time?
8. Favourite Cracker Joke
9. Favourite Christmas Decoration
Has to be the tree – it’s the main attraction. Definitely can’t be doing with a real one though, to much mess and hassle!
10. Favourite Christmas Candle Scent
11. Favourite Christmas Advert
I don’t really take much notice of adverts but I loved the John Lewis advert from last year, Bear and Hare. This year however Sainsburys stole the show with their advert about the 1914 Christmas Eve truce.
12. Favourite Festive Tradition
All piling into one bed and opening the stockings before we do anything else!
13. Favourite Place to Spend Christmas
At home with family.
14. Favourite Christmas Fact
I will always leave Christmas shopping and writing cards till the last minute despite saying that I’ll do it earlier next year. Fact!
15. Favourite Snowman Accessory
Definitely a cosy scarf!
Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and New Year!
*I then ended up coming down with the sickness bug myself so my festive spirit was short-lived!
