You Beauty Discovery – January Review

Today it’s the turn of the You Beauty Discovery box to feature on my blog. This was the first Beauty Box I ever subscribed to and it’s still a firm favourite; delivering a great selection of brands each month and offering fantastic value.

January’s theme is New Year, New You and includes a variety of treats designed to blow away those winter blues, indulge your senses and kickstart your January detox! Items in the selection menu include; Afyna Organic Detoxifying Body Lotion (60ml), Afyna Organic Detoxifying Body Scrub (60ml), Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm, Boutique by Sainsbury’s Nail Varnish in Away with the Fairies or A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss, DHC Deep Cleansing Oil (30ml), Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream (15ml), Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm (30ml) & Overnight Recharge Night Cream (3ml), and TRESemmè Platinum Strength 60 Second Treatment Shot.

So what made it into my box?

The first option I chose was the Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm (30ml, value £5) & Overnight Recharge Night Cream (3ml, value £3.35). Merumaya is a relatively young British skincare brand that I’ve tried and enjoyed before, so I was really happy to see the generously sized Cleansing Balm in the line-up, along with a sample of the brand new night cream. The cleansing balm features a highly nourishing blend of Sweet Almond Oil, Echium Seed Oil, and Mangosteen extract, which effortlessly lifts make up and daily grime. When you add water to the massage, it turns to a light milk, making it easy to remove with or a splash of water or, as a prefer, a cleansing cloth for a gentle exfoliation.

My second choice was the Afyna Detoxifying Body Lotion (60ml, value £10). Afyna body lotion is 90% organic and contains five carefully selected essential oils including juniper berry and grapefruit which encourage the body to detoxify and reduce the signs of cellulite. Easily absorbed it leaves skin hydrated and silky smooth and has a fresh zingy scent; the perfect addition to my New Year beauty regime. Afyna, I discovered, is a British brand made in Cornwall, which brings back many a happy memory of my Honeymoon there!

Each box also included 3 Dragonfly Tea bags selected from 4 flavours (Green Gaucho organic mate tea, Mountain Honeybush organic tea, Swirling Mist organic white tea, or Emerald Mountain organic green tea), a 5ml sachet of Dove Hair Youthful Vitality Hair BB Cream and Hello Fresh £25 voucher card.

Excluding extras my box has a value of £18 which makes it a complete steal at £6.95!

As always You Beauty Discovery subscribers have the option to choose two products of their choice each month, with a bonus of 2-4 samples thrown in. This makes it especially great for beauty box novices as you get to control what’s in your box. You can find out more and subscribe here.

I got the Elemis cream and the merumaya set. I did like that we had a sample of the merumaya melt in a recent YBD box so I knew it would be suitable for my skin. I tried the night cream and it felt very rich, perfect to use in winter!

You seem to have subbed at a bit of a low point, there were some amazing boxes last year but the last couple of boxes haven’t been as good.
