Birchbox – January Review

My eagerly awaited January Birchbox has landed on my doorstep and has certainly brightened up what has otherwise been a lacklustre start to 2015. The theme of the January Birchbox is Hit Refresh and as Birchbox had already revealed this box is produced in conjunction with Women’s Health Magazine.

The idea of Hit Refresh as outlined in the enclosed booklet is to make small but meaningful enhancements to your lifestyle, rather than radical changes that are too easily dropped by the wayside and the box is full of tips and words of encouragement to help you on your way to a healthier, more fulfilling New Year. So what products are in this month’s line-up?

First up is a Stila Lip Glaze in Glitter (full size, RRP £15), which seems to be a product everyone receives. I really like these non-sticky glosses, which can be worn alone or over a lip colour to add shine. This is quite a sheer rosy pink that adds a lovely gloss and healthy tint to the lips.

My second item is the REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask 10ml (Full Size RRP £30); a potent bio active peel mask which claims to renew the complexion, reduce the appearance of fine lines and dramatically improve skin tone. Additionally it removes dead skin cells to unblock pores and help prevent blackheads and blemishes. The mask has an uplifting, fruity aroma thanks to the natural fruit acids of passion fruit, lemon, grape, pineapple and papaya.

I’ve only ever tried a couple of REN products before and I wasn’t bowled over, however I’ve never tried this particular product and it does sound nice so perhaps this will be the product that converts me.

The third product out of the box is HealGel Intensive 5ml (Full Size RRP £37.50). HealGel is a British skincare brand, developed by a team of dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons, that has received rave Blogger reviews. I’ve wanted to try their products for a while so i’m happy this was included in my box. HealGel Intensive is a lightweight multi-purpose skin rescue gel containing the soothing and restorative properties Arnica.

The next item is a 20ml sample of Philip Kingsley Body Building Conditioner (Full Size, RRP £19), perfect for those who wish to add body to limp, lifeless hair. This unique formula, containing wheat protein, claims to strengthen, detangle, control frizz and add gloss without weighing the hair down.

Philip Kingsley haircare products are some of my favourites so this is a welcome addition to my travel bag!

The fifth and final beauty item is a 20ml sample of Activbod Cooling Finish Lotion (Full Size RRP £12). This product and brand is completely new to me, but apparently Activbod are behind a complete regime of products that aim to keep you enjoying your exercise. Targetting sports and gym enthusiasts, their range includes cooling lotions, rejuvenating shower gels, and recovery potions.

I received the Cooling Finish Lotion which is a clear lightweight gel with a refreshing menthol scent. It’s ideal for applying after a workout session and as I’ve just signed up to the gym today this will be a great addition to my routine.

Suitably this month’s lifestyle extras are Embrace Matcha Green Tea and a Pilates Band. Pilates bands provide resistance during exercising thereby making your workout work better and of course Green Tea is packed full of antioxidants and additionally has been claimed to aid weight loss. Matcha tea has 10 times the antioxidants of a cup of regular green tea and as it is in a powder form is can even be mixed with smoothies and juices, or used in baking!

I love the concept of January’s box and I can’t wait to use all the products! What  did you get in your box?
