The Bakewell Soap Company Balms

Balms are my weakness and I have different ones dotted around the house, in my handbag and in the car. I love having them to hand so that whenever I’m on a long journey or sat watching TV I can rub them into my cuticles or any rough patches of skin. Other people may chew gum, smoke, or eat junk food to relieve boredom or stress – I have my balms!

Two balms I absolutely love are from The Bakewell Soap Company, which is based just outside Bakewell village in Derbyshire, a place I spent many a weekend in my youth. Although The Bakewell Soap Company is now located in the heart of the Peak National Park, its roots actually lie in New South Wales, Australia, where Dharma first began making her own soaps with natural and organic ingredients that were gentle on her skin. It was upon returning to England that The Bakewell Soap Company was born.

Memebox Seeds and Flowers

It’s a sad day in my household as my final Memebox has been delivered. Seeds & Flowers was one of the last international boxes available from Memebox – sadly our favourite K-Beauty supplier has withdrawn from shipping internationally in order to concentrate efforts on their US, Korean and Chinese markets – so this review feels like a farewell. Read on to find out what my first impressions of this box are; has Memebox gone out on a high or left me feeling deflated?

Beauty on a Budget – W7 Cosmetics

When I was growing up and first experimenting with beauty, budget makeup was basic to put it politely. Foundations came in only a handful of different shades, all of which tended to look orange, and the formulas were heavy resulting in a cakey, mask like finish, yet we still thought we looked the bees-knees! Luckily these days we have so much more choice when it comes to shades and finishes, from barely there bases to full coverage, and you can achieve the look you want without breaking the bank. Technology from higher end beauty brands has also filtered down to the mass market and budget brands have been quick to adopt new formulas and finishes, which has been great for those of us who can’t afford a £30 foundation!

One of the great success stories has been W7 Cosmetics. Their range is huge, highly affordable, and with palettes that rival popular high-end brands they’re a popular choice for people who want the look without the associated pricetag. I was sent a few of their products to play with and having heard great things about W7 makeup I was very excited to see how their products performed. What I tried impressed me massively.

Introducing Beauty Kitchen

Fed up of beauty products that claimed to be “natural” yet contained a host of chemical nasties qualified herbal botantist Jo Chidley was driven to create her own range of natural, 100% organic, and affordable beauty products. The result was Beauty Kitchen, a company that literally cooks up the freshest bodycare products you can imagine; with minimal, all natural ingredients the formulas are ultra skin-friendly and are designed to impact to the environment as little as possible.

Mother’s Day at Lush

Lush certainly know how to think up new and inspiring ranges and this time it’s Mother’s Day that gets the all attention. Last week I persuaded my husband to drive me to the Bury store so I could explore the range and take a few bits home with me.

image

Valentine’s was still the order of the day in the shop, with Lonely Hearts, Unicorn Horns and Prince Charming shower gels piled high, but for this visit it was the Mother’s Day products that I really had my eye on. The Lush Mother’s Day range has definitely been cooked up with both mums and kids in mind, so along with indulgent aromas plenty of fun characters have been thrown in to amuse and delight Lush’s younger audience. Faced with all these brightly coloured and interesting goodies I was like a kid in a sweetshop and quickly filled my basket up with treats.

Madame LA LA Tan

With the warmer weather still a couple of months away there are only two options if you want your skin to glow; either jetting off to sunnier climes or faking it. My preference of course would always be for the former but as I’m not a millionaire i’ll settle for the latter. I’ve been trying two very different fake tans over the last couple of weeks, both of which will feature in their own post, and the first i’m reviewing is from a new British-American skincare brand Madame LA LA.

Hand Chemistry Intense Youth Complex

When Clinique discontinued my favourite anti-aging hand cream, the only cream I’d found that was truely effective at banishing the crepey skin on the back of my hands, I was massively disappointed. So when I was introduced to Hand Chemistry Intense Youth Complex (thank you Lookfantastic beauty box!) I felt a huge surge of excitement. Could this be the hand cream I’d been looking for?

Certainly it sounded like it was, making some impressive claims that it could improve skin texture in just 10 days, but as the saying goes the proof of the pudding is in the eating and Hand Chemistry had a lot to live up to.
