Nails of The Day – Models Own Velvet Goth Collection

It feels like an age since I featured a Nails of The Day post but the gorgeous Velvet Goth Collection from Models Own was screaming to be showcased so I decided to delve into my collection and choose a shade, which always proves difficult when they’re all so beautiful.

Available in 5 shades – Absinthe (emerald green), Amethyst (purple), Valerian (blue), Sardonyx (deep red) and Obsidian (black) – these polishes are described as “matte yet sparkly at the same time… giving a multi-faceted effect that can be seen but not felt” and their unique texture is unlike any other polish I’ve tried before.

The colour i’m featuring today is Sardonyx; a blood scarlet red base that is packed with tiny red glitter in slightly different sizes. The polish dries to a matte finish, but the glitter provides a lovely depth and sparkle; the effect of which is simply stunning.

The coverage of the polish is fantastic, requiring two coats, and the formula although quite thick isn’t too gloopy and is quick to dry. The finish isn’t completely smooth and in a way resembles velvet, which I’m guessing is the reason behind the name, however there are no annoying particles of glitter that lift or snag clothing like you can find with some glitter polishes. If you feel like more shine or want to mix it up a little, you can apply a shiny top coat, which will really transform the polish.

The Velvet Goth polishes come in the typical Models Own bottle but the colour co’ordinated velvet lids set them apart from other Models Own polishes, and retail for £5 at Models Own Bottleshops or online.

I think the polishes in this range are so striking and definitely worthy of a place in anyone’s nail polish collection. What do you think?

I’ve not removed mine yet – that’s the one downside of glitter polishes and usually why I leave them on for ages! Not looking forward to the task, lol!
