Faking It With TanTruth

We are gaining more and more knowledge about how dangerous and damaging to the skin the ultraviolet rays found in sunlight are, and with sun cancers on the increase people are beginning to shun the sunbed and get their tan out of a bottle instead. Although I love the feel of the sun on my skin and the sunkissed glow only a tan provides I won’t risk my long-term health, nor do I want to age prematurely, so I always wear a minimum SPF15 and as for my tan I fake it.

Fake tan has definitely become more sophisticated in recent years; gone is the orange look, replaced by tanners that self-adjust to the individual’s skin tone, the stereotypical fake tan has vanished from many, and there are so many formulas to chose from including mousses, lotions and even oils. From the palest skintones to the driest skins there is a tanner for everyone, but if you’re still a little nervous then the product i’m featuring today is one for you.

Zeen Argan Oil

Argan oil has in recent years found wide acknowledgement as a wonder ingredient for the basis of many a beauty treatment. From skincare to haircare, so many products now utilise Argan oil which is wonderful, especially for the small Berber communities in Morocco where this rich oil is produced. It has also been a victim of its own success however and as with a lot of buzz ingredients in the beauty industry sadly there are brands that exploit the popularity and reputation of this precious oil – just look on the list of ingredients of many moisturisers or hair oils which boast Argan oil as an ingredient and see where Argan Spinosa comes; often it is way down the list.

When I holidayed in Morocco many years ago Argan oil wasn’t as well known as it is now, but I was convinced by a stall holder in a local Souk that this oil was a true hero and multi-tasker. I bought two bottles of pure argan oil and for the whole holiday they became my after-sun, my moisturiser and hair tamer – my skin glowed and had never looked as good. Upon my return home I wished I’d brought home a whole suitcase of the stuff! Fast forward a decade and Argan oil is mainstream as an ingredient in so many products, yet often is it to be found blended with a whole host of other ingredients. Zeen is a brand I discovered which aims to put the use of pure Argan oil back up there as a go-to product with their 100% pure Face and Body Oil, and rightly so.

Trouble-Shooting Skin Concerns

Most, if not all, of us have at least one niggling skincare concern; that one thing that stops us wearing a bikini or that makes us self-conscious on the beach. Finding a product that claims to address a particular problem is easy, with hundreds of lotions and potions on the market, but finding that one product that really does what it says on the tin can prove difficult. As a mum I have gained the odd scar and stretchmark along the way so I thought I’d bare all and let my readers know what products I’ve found that have helped trouble shoot my skin concerns.

Product Disappointment – Philip Kingsley Moisture Balancing Range

First let me explain; I hate writing negative reviews, very little else gives me as much angst as sitting there deciding how I should express my negative opinion in as constructive a way as possible, or whether I should even post the review. But then I had a disappointing experience with quite a high-end hair range recently and I wondered if I was the only one, so I consulted Google only to find 4 and 5 star reviews. Surely I was not alone in not getting on with this product, I wondered. Then it struck me, perhaps people aren’t posting their less than glowing reviews (this is a subject that’s come up time and time again in Twitter chats with many Bloggers stating they don’t publish negative reviews) but surely in order for shoppers to get a balanced view we owe them the bad as well as the good? So putting my reservations aside here goes with my honest review…

W7 Wild Lash Mascara

I was recently away visiting family when I realised the mascara I had in my travel makeup bag had dried out. Cue a mad dash to the nearest shop, which was a discount retailer, to pick up a cheap mascara to last me the weekend.

The retailer carried a few non-descript brands which I duly passed over, but as my eyes skimmed the shelves I noticed a W7 mascara. Having been impressed with products from this budget friendly brand before I decided to grab this mascara and give it a whirl. At worst it only cost me £1!
