Birchbox are encouraging all subscribers to Free Your Mind in May with a beautifully designed “colour your own” box, and certainly with Beauty Boxes sometimes you have to do just that – pushing yourself outside your normal comfort zone to embrace that bright lipstick or use that fake tan! Since subscribing the team at Birchbox HQ have often challenged me to try things I normally wouldn’t and they’ve never got it completely wrong, so I was very much looking forward to tucking into the latest box and seeing what treats had been handpicked for me.
Speaking about venturing outside your comfort zone and first out of my box is an item that I probably would pass up ordinarily, not because I dislike it but because it is such a bright colour and I tend to wear neutral lips. Nevertheless I was pleased to see a mini Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge in Sydney (full size, RRP £21) peeking out of my box as it really is a beautiful raspberry red colour and has a gorgeous mousse-like texture which applies with a long-lasting, matte finish. It also has a delicious berry scent.
The next product is one we got to pick from a selection of full size WAH London products including nail lacquer, nail art pen or press-on nails. I chose to go with the polish as I have very little time for nail art and also dislike false nails. The one I received is a concrete effect called Builders (RRP £9). I love gray shades and the matte finish, which has been quite popular recently, although I must admit I was hoping for a brighter colour given we’re zooming towards Summer. I’ve heard great things about WAH London from confirmed nail polish addicts so i’m looking forward to trying this polish out and maybe getting creative with some nail art if I find the time.
The third item this month (and another full size) is Jelly Pong Pong Caribbean Sun in Martinique (RRP £15.95), a blusher and bronzer duo in very flattering, natural looking tones that may be used seperate or swirled together. The fragrance-free formula is infused with skin friendly Argan oil and moisturising Mango Butter and feels silky soft.
Fourth out of the box is a 22ml sample of Whish Body Butter in Almond (full size RRP £14.50), a scrumptious marzipan scented body butter infused with aloe, shea butter and raspberry butter. I love the sweet, comforting fragrance of almond so this is the perfect product for me!
The next product is a Birchbox exclusive and it’s a travel sized Moisturising Sea Salt Spray from Parlor by Jeff Chastain (full size RRP £17). Salt sprays are a great way of adding texture and a gently tousled look suitable for all hair types and lengths, and I like using them on days when I’m feeling a little lazy and a sleek ‘do would just be too time-consuming to achieve.
As a bonus product, to soothe stressed out locks and frazzled barnets, is a single use sachet of Number 4 Lumiere d’Hiver Reconstructing Masque (full size RRP £36). With soy proteins, shea butter, sunflower seed and jojoba oil this sounds like the ultimate treatment for hair and should leave it smooth, shiny, and strong.
As I mentioned earlier the box has a very pretty design that is just screaming out to be coloured in and helpfully Birchbox have even provided the crayons, so muster up your inner child, get those creative synapses firing and start creating your masterpiece. Who knows you could bag £500 worth of beauty treats for your efforts (more info at blog.birchbox.co.uk/colour). I can’t wait to settle down one evening and enjoy some art therapy colouring my box in!
I’m really pleased with my box this month, there is a good array of products and the line-up encompasses all aspects of beauty from top-to-toe; Birchbox have hit the nail on the head and curated a fabulous box!
