You Beauty Discovery – July 2015 Review

You Beauty Discovery is a lovely little beauty box concept whereby you chose two items from a monthly shortlist and these are sent to you together with a handful of other treats. For £6.95 this may be the cheapest subscription box but it still manages to punch well above its weight, delivering some great value boxes.

This month’s theme is You Travel and features some great beauty products for travel, but even if you’re staying home there’s something for to enjoy. Whilst this month’s shortlist didn’t quite set my pulse racing there were some items that piqued my interest and I had to try, so now that my box is here let’s take a peek inside!

My first choice was the Hairy Jayne Citrus Hair Perfume with Heat Protection (30ml, value £7.20) which I must admit wasn’t a product I’d usually reach for but this brand and product sounded so interesting I had to give it a whirl. As well as protecting hair from damaging heat styling, Hairy Jayne Citrus Hair Perfume also acts as a between-wash freshener providing lift, shine and frizz-control without weighing the hair down or leaving it lank. It also has a deliciously zingy citrus scent, reminiscent of a fresh summer cocktail.

The next product I picked was the Love Your Skin London Collagen Face and Body Moisturising Gel (30ml, value £2.50) which I thought sounded ideal for this time of year, when harsh sun leaves the skin parched and in need of some major TLC! This water based gel is a hot-weather skin saviour and can be used daily on the body, face and hands. Suitable for all skin types, it is cooling, soothing and non-sticky, as well as being packed with skin-loving ingredients such as natural collagen, Evening Primrose and Aloe Vera. Popped in the fridge it’s also incredibly soothing on sunburnt skin.

The extras this month were a 50ml sample of the brand new St. Tropez Gradual Tan In Shower Gel (value £3.60), a pack of delicious Nairn Muesli Breaks and a sample sachet of Emma Hardie Protect and Prime. Foodie extras always get the thumbs up from me so along with the fabulous items I selected I was a very happy subscriber!

The July box can be purchased right up until the 31st July and the full line-up includes; Wild About Beauty Nutrilips SPF15, Vichy Purete Thermale 3 in 1 & Idealia Life Serum (30ml & 3ml), Philip Kingsley Moisture Balancing Conditioner and Shampoo (20ml), Oriflame Tender Care Protecting Balm (15ml), Nip + Fab Body Slim Fix (45ml), Love You Skin Collagen Moisturising Gel (30ml), Lola Makeup by Perse Nail Polish in Stone Grey, and Hairy Jayne Citrus Hair Perfume (30ml).At only £6.95 a month including the box is great value and is ideal for anyone just dipping their toes into the world of subscription beauty boxes.

I agree, this is probably one of the best low-cost subscription boxes out there, coming in under £10 you do get a fair few samples to try and who doesn’t love a foodie extra? They’re always my favourite too! Intrigued by the hair freshener, mostly because I just love the name ‘Hairy Jayne’ hehe!

Must admit I love this box, I had their advent calendar last year and I hope they’re going to do another. This month I picked The collagen gel and the Nip & Fab body slim fix. I’ve had the nip & fab before and loved it, in fact my sample had just ran out which is why I ordered it. I was surprised the St Tropez was a freebie, I thought it would be one of the ones you had to pick and would run out.

I skipped this years calender (too many duplicates for me) but the previous years was great. Yes the St Tropez was a great extra and the Nairns biscuit was yummy too!

Lovely items. I also chose the Collagen Hand and Body Gel – it’s really interesting! I thought it was going to be tacky on my skin but it isn’t – not a fan of the smell though so won’t be in a hurry to make a purchase. My second item was the VICHY Purete Thermale 3 in 1 & Idealia Life Serum Duo – perfect for my holiday bag. I too was surprised at the size of the St Tropez – what a great size for an extra and the little sachet of EH Primer was not actually that small either – I squeezed the 5mL sample into a small pot to get the most use out of this lovely gem of a product. A very pleasing box for me.

Glad you liked this month’s box too! I always manage to get the most out of sample sachets too, I have some 1ml sachets of Dior foundation and the coverage is really good so I get 4-5 days out of each one 🙂
