Last month my first ever Mask Maven dropped on my doormat and I was immediately impressed. This exciting new Korean subscription service helped fill the void left in my life when Memebox stopped shipping to the UK and kept my skin glowing month-long! I was super excited for the next installment and finally it’s here and ready to be unveiled!
To those who may not know, Mask Maven* is a monthly subscription service from Beauteque that ships an assortment of 9 – 11 masks direct to your door at a cost of $15 plus shipping. Whilst last month’s bag consisted soley of sheet masks, Mask Maven have shaken up this July’s bag, and along with seven sheet masks have included a foot mask and an eye mask. As usual a enclosed card gives a brief description of each mask, ensuring that those not fluent in Korean understand what each mask is for.
The first mask really has me excited. I’ve seen so many sheet masks printed with cute animal faces and now I get to try a similar mask myself with the SNP Beijing Opera Brightening Sheet Mask. In Chinese theatre opera masks are painted onto the actors to help convey the attributes of the character and this sheet mask is designed just like an opera mask would be painted. The main colour of the sheet mask is black which indicates that the character is neutral or impartial but has integrity – but enough of the fun facts; this sheet mask is fortified with coconut water and is great for brightening and reviving dull complexions.
Next up is the Esfolio Milk Essence Mask Sheet. Milk protein is effective in keeping the skin clean and helping to increase skin elasticity and moisture, and is an ingredient that Cleopatra was famed for using in her beauty regime. Well if it was good enough for Cleopatra, I definitely want some of the action!
The third mask is the Vitamin and Pineapple Sheet Mask from well loved brand Holika Holika. Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain which helps breakdown dead skin cells. This gentle chemical exfoliation brightens the complexion, keeping the skin free from wrinkles and acne.
The next mask deviates slightly from the others as it’s for the feet, not the face. Worn for 15-20 minutes the AngelLooka Ultra Moisturizing Foot Mask Pack heats up on application and helps moisturise and soften feet with jojoba oil, shea butter and argan oil. This is your passport to beautiful feet this summer!
Moving on is the interesting looking Mediheal Black Eye Anti-Wrinkle Mask. This anti-wrinkle eye care mask utilises effective components such as phyto black complex, marine collagen, and silk peptide to improve skin elasticity and to revitalise the delicate eye area. I’m sure it will amuse my husband when I wear it!
The sixth mask is the very luxurious sounding Esfolio Gold Mask – Gold Essence. Containing colloidal gold, this sheet mask is great for alleviating stressed skin, restoring elasticity and improving skin tone. I’m definitely looking forward to trying this one.
Who doesn’t love a bit of TonyMoly? Well K-Beauty fans are in luck because each bag contains a mask from this well known brand. I recieved the TonyMoly I’m Real Tomato Mask Sheet Radiance, which as you may have guessed is fortified with tomato to restore smoothness and radiance to tired complexions.
The final two masks are Urban Dollkiss Welcome to Korea Money Masks in Solution and Skin Clear. Unique to Beauteque, each Mask Maven bag contains two masks from a selection that either lifts, revitalises, cleanses, moisturises, or repairs skin, and each mask is packaged to look like a real banknote. The ingredients and descriptions on the packaging are all in Korean so I popped them into a translation programme to ascertain that amongst the many ingredients is propolis and… wait for it… fermented horse placenta! I’m quite excited by these masks.
Dare I say it, but this month’s Mask Maven has really surpassed June’s bag. We have some really popular brands, plus I love the fact that Beauteque have included some different types of masks. Whether you’re new to Korean beauty or are a confirmed K-Beauty junkie, Mask Maven is a fantastic way of sampling an array of masks each month. If you want to take your skincare to the next level I’d highly recommend introducing sheet masks to your regime and this service is a fabulous opportunity to do just that!
Beauteque Mask Maven customers can choose between a rolling monthly subscription priced at $16 per month or a three, six or twelve month prepaid subscription (at a cost of $16, $15, $14 respectively) plus shipping, which varies according to country but is currently $3.95 to the US and $8.95 to Europe. Payment is taken out on the 20th of each month and bags are shipped out from the 20th of every month, however if you subscribe after the 10th of the month you will receive next month’s bag.
