Lookfantastic Beauty Box August 2015 Edition

As seems to have become standard the first beauty box to drop on my doormat this month is the Lookfantastic Beauty Box.

Since its launch last year this beauty box has regularly been a favourite, offering exceptional value at just £15, a good range of products and fantastic service, although I feel that recent boxes have gone off the boil a little. So now that my box has arrived let’s take a delve inside to discover more about August’s offering and see whether it’s a hit or miss.

The first product is a full size Bellapierre Cosmetics Shimmer in Snowflake (RRP £12.99). A fine, loose, 100% Mica powder this product can be used as an eyeshadow or highlighter and you can even use it wet for more colour intensity. I think Bellapierre is a great, natural colour cosmetics brand and, although the shade is not quite my cup of tea and I feel is probably more suited towards the Christmas party season, I’ll definitely give it a whirl.

The second item is another makeup products and again is one that varies between boxes. I recieved a Rimmel Wonder’full Wake Me Up Mascara (RRP £7.99) but some boxes will contain a lip colour or a different mascara from the Rimmel range. This mascara is brand new to Rimmel and boasts vitamins and cucumber extract amongst its ingredients. With an hourglass shaped wand it promises to really lift the lashes and open the eyes.

Moving on we have the first of two hair care products. The Alterna Caviar CC Cream (value £8) is a leave in hair cream containing caviar, which advises it moistures, gives shine, and adds softness and manageability. It also protects against damaged caused by UV and heat styling, prevents breakage and provides hold. A full size, 75ml tube retails at £25 and here we have a decent 25ml travel size which should give a few uses and I’m excited to try out this luxurious sounding product!

The second hair product is a 50ml travel sized Beauty Works Ten-In-One Miracle Spray (value £2.50). Apparently this product prevents frizz, moisturises, adds gloss, strengthens, protects from heat, nourishes, restructures, has anti-oxidant and anti-aging properties, gives extra body, and provides superior styling. It is also free from parabens, sulfates, phthalates and synthetic colour and contains no paraffin, gluten, mineral oil or petrolatum – fantastic!

Next up is a 1.8ml sample of Omorovicza Queen Of Hungary Mist (value 92p). Omorovicza revived a 14th century beauty recipe originally created for Queen Elizabeth of Hungary for this purifying, toning and protective mist, which has multiple skin-rejuvenating benefits thanks to its unique blend of proteins and vitamins and the minerals and trace elements found in Hungarian healing waters. I love facial mists and I was very pleased to see this brand appear again as it was included a few months ago, however the sample size is rather small to get a proper feel for the product so this feels like a bit of a dud.

The final product is the famous Eve Lom Cleanser. At 30ml and including a muslin cloth this cleansing balm is worth £16.50 which alone exceeds the price of the box – impressive! Lookfantastic featured this cleanser in their November box, so for customers who have been there since the beginning this balm will be a duplicate, but for anyone who missed out in the early days this is a pretty exciting product for them. I’m not unhappy to see this feature again as it’s a lovely, effective cleanser, deserving of its cult status, but I’d love to have perhaps tried another product from the Eve Lom range.

One the whole this is a solid enough line-up and as always with Lookfantastic represents good value, but I just can’t seem to get as excited as I did when the box first launched. However, it always seems to include at least one full size product and showcases a consistant mix of products and brands, so all things considered I do think this is one of the better value beauty boxes around. Have you bought a Lookfantastic Beauty Box before? What do you think to this selection?

The August Lookfantastic Beauty Box is on sale now. Priced at £15 inclusive of postage produce you can either buy the boxes individually or sign up for a 3, 6 or 12 month discounted plan, assuring delivery at the beginning of every month. Find out more at http://www.lookfantastic.com

I found the price compared to the products a bit meh, so I did try it for 3 months. Most annoying was that the products that I was looking forward to was always the smallest in the box and I guess that ended up being the deal breaker for me.

If they could make a few options on the box based on if you like hair, makeup, skincare or body – I think I might have considered trying 3 new months.

What a shame, I liked last month’s box and June’s. I don’t buy the Look fantastic boxes, I wait until the end of the month and get it free with an order of say, £55. That is quite expensive in itself but making purchases that I definitely want makes it worthwhile getting the beauty box for free 😊. I also get to preview it from others who have the subscription, like you, so I can decide to get it or not, which is a little cheeky but why not!

This is my first box! Saw an advert for it on a saving money group thing and thought I would give it a whirl. I’m impressed but it isnt what I was expecting somehow. Or maybe its sour grapes because I didn’t get the extra that they were putting in 30 boxes 😛

I think they’ve put extra things in selected boxes since they began, but I’ve never been lucky. Come to think of it, I’ve never seen a box with the extra item… hmm….

  3. Eliane says:

Yep….I never saw somebody saying that the box got the lucky “extra” one…..so, I started to think if it is really true. As I never saw the winner of their competitions too. I liked to buy from them, but, I would like to see somebody win, for real.

I was v lucky to receive a foreo luna face cleanser machine thingy. £150 rrp!
