Birchbox – September 2015 Review

September’s beauty boxes have started landing and my second one to arrive is from Birchbox. The first beauty box company to launch here in the UK, Birchbox are now celebrating their fifth year so this specially themed Birthday box promises to be extra special.

Birchbox have gone back to their roots in the USA for this month’s box, with each product being from an American brand. Everyone will sample a new launch from cult beauty brand Benefit, as well as receiving a handy beauty tool to pop in their handbag, but let’s take a look at the box in full.

My first item is a 30ml sample of Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant (full size RRP £23.50) which utilises Salicylic Acid to exfoliate, remove impurities, soften and brighten the complexion. I’m not familiar with Paula’s Choice skincare, although I have used the website, which thoroughly reviews almost every skincare brand and product you can name, debunking the claims and critiquing the ingredients lists. I’m really keen to try out this product as I tend to use physical exfoliators rather than chemical ones.

The next product is a 30ml travel sized Beauty Protector Beauty Wash (full size RRP £8), a beautifully scented body wash that produces a soft and sumptuous lather. Beauty Protector is a brand only available from Birchbox.

Third out of the box is a 30ml sample of John Masters Organics Citrus Neroli Detangler (full size RRP £16), which is a natural beauty brand hailing from New York. This conditioner helps detangle, repair and smooth the hair shaft thanks to coconut oil and wheat amino acids, while neroli and grapefruit soothe the scalp and give this product a delicious aroma.

Next up is a new launch from Benefit that every subscriber will get to sample. The POREfessional Licence to Blot (full size RRP £15.50) is an ingenious oil blotting stick, designed to instantly mattify the skin, giving a longlasting shine-free complexion. This sample will be perfect for on the go touch-ups and is a great size for popping in my purse.

The fifth product is another that all subscribers will receive and it’s the Laqa & Co Cheeky Lip Pencil in Cray Cray (full size RRP £17). This pretty coral crayon can be used on lips and cheeks to give a pop of colour to perk up lacklustre complexions and is a makeup product that is right up my street. This for me is the standout in September’s box!

The final item is the Birchbrush (RRP £5.99), a cute egg-shaped brush very similar to the Tangle Teezer which I already use and love. The brush sits comfortably in my hand and does a great job of easing knots out of my hair without tugging and causing breakage. I really like getting beauty tools in my Birchbox, particularly when they’re as good quality as this one.

So that is this month’s Birchbox and on the whole I’m really pleased. I love the pretty box design and the way the products encompass every aspect of beauty, from haircare and skincare to bodycare and makeup, although I perhaps expected a little more pizazz and sparkle from a Birthday box.

If you’re tempted to join in the celebrations this month (and Birchbox have promised there are more to come) you can sign up for just £12.95 per month. If you use my referral link you also get 50 points (worth £5) to spend in the Birchbox shop.

I’d love to hear what you got in your September Birchbox!

Yes, boxes vary. There are a few products everyone will get, this month I think it’s the Benefit product and Laqa&Co lip crayon, but other items may vary.
