My Korean-Beauty Journey

I was sorting through my Korean beauty stash recently and it got me reminiscing about the amazing Memeboxes I used to get! It’s been almost a year since Memebox, who branded themselves as the World’s number one Korean beauty store, stopped international shipping to concentrate on their American market and although I always hoped they would start back up again, sadly it hasn’t happened yet!

Korean Beauty has really taken off since then, with lots of Western brands jumping on trends that were started by Korean companies. Foundation cushions and sheet masks are no longer well kept secrets but terms that are familiar to every beauty addict, however Memebox will always have a special place in my heart for reasons I’ll explain below.

You Beauty Discovery – January 2016

The January You Beauty Discovery box will be the final one as we know it. Behind the scenes this beauty box has been having a makeover, and from February will emerge as You Beauty Box. Other than a new name and website the details of the makeover are sketchy, and as my favourite budget-beating beauty box I’m a little worried that they may change the concept completely.

Currently the You Beauty Discovery box costs just £6.95 and the concept is simple; from a monthly shortlist you choose two products and they are sent to you with a handful of extras. This box is great for those on a budget and who want a degree of choice, and it’s unique to any other beauty box on the market. So let’s delve into January’s box!

DHC Deep Cleansing Oil

If your skin is oily nothing probably scares you more than the word oil in the description of skincare products. Indeed I used to feel that way about oil-based products, thinking “surely they’ll just break me out”. But believe me when I say oils can be great for oily complexions, which so often suffer from our mis-judged tendency to use harsh, astringent products. Sometimes all an oily skin needs is nourishment.

When I discovered oil cleansers, and in particular the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil (70ml, RRP £11)* which I’m reviewing today, I became a huge convert. This is a really gentle way of removing the daily grime and makeup, but don’t be mistaken, gentle doesn’t mean ineffective; the DHC Cleansing Oil can shift even stubborn waterproof makeup without too much effort.

So Susan LipLove Bag – January 2016

I completely forgot my January So Susan Lip Love Bag was due to arrive so when it landed on my doormat I was pleasantly surprised.

The “I Love Myself” Bag, which features a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment”

is all about channeling those positive vibes and learning to love ourselves. So maybe you’ve already fallen off the Dryanuary waggon or the New Year’s diet has fallen by the wayside, who cares! Be bold, be beautiful, be you!

Get Glam this January with Max Factor

January can be a difficult month. The days may be growing longer, but it’s still colder than December and without the excitement of Christmas it can seem like a darker month than ever. So Max Factor are aiming to banish those Winter blues and make January the month to be glam with their #GlamJan campaign.

#GlamJan aims to encourage women from around the world to glam up with make-up and undergo a personal glamour transformation just as Marilyn Monroe did when she met Mr. Max Factor and emerged as the bombshell blonde we all know and love.

Solution For Scars

During my pregnancy I was one of the lucky few who escaped the dreaded stretchmarks, but when labour resulted in an emergency caeserean I ended up with a large scar that even after almost five years still bothers me.

Like many people with scars i’ve used various creams with varying results – most of them pretty unimpressive – so when Science Of Skin approached me to try their new cream Solution For Scars I was very excited. Maybe this could be the one that reduces the redness and occasional irritation I was still experiencing?
