Birchbox – January 2016 Review

Last week I gave readers a sneak peek of January’s Birchbox and revealed that the box would feature a collaboration with Pintrest. Well now the box is in my eager hands and I can’t wait to delve into the contents and see what Birchbox have picked for me!

First out of the box is a 30ml and 12ml Parlor Moisturising Shampoo & Conditioner duo (full size RRP £16). I was impressed by the Parlor Salt Spray I received in a previous box, so I’m looking forward to trying the shampoo and conditioner. My hair has been a little temperamental recently however so fingers crossed for these products.

Next is a 25g mini version of Crabtree&Evelyn’s iconic La Source Ultra Moisturizing Hand Therapy (50ml, RRP £15). Whilst a hand cream isn’t hugely exciting this one from trusted British brand Crabtree&Evelyn definitely does the job, leaving even the driest of hands soft and supple.

Moving on we have the full sized makeup item every subscriber will get. I was sent the Jelly Pong Pong Lighten Up Brightener (RRP £14.95). This soft eye pencil can be used along the waterline to make the eyes appear brighter or underneath the eye to disguise dark circles. This isn’t the most exciting of products, but nonetheless is useful.

The next item is product Birchbox promised would be in every box. The Benefit They’re Real Tinted Primer (full size RRP £18.50) is new to the Benefit product range and is designed to be worn underneath your mascara to help lengthen and create volume. If your lashes are thin or stubby or you just love to exaggerate your eyelashes this product promises to be your best friend.

Finally there is a 30ml sample of Absolution L’Eau Soir et Matin (full size RRP £27, 150ml). This paraben-free, natural based cleansing water featuring hazelnut oil and aloe vera is gentle and purifying, perfect for removing makeup and daily grime without irritation. I love using cleansing water as the first step of my double cleanse regime so I will enjoy trying this!

As additional extras this month is a Birchbox branded pocket mirror and 5 pretty postcards illustrated by designer Viktorija Semjonova.

This is a solid line-up of beauty essentials featuring products that should be staples in everyone’s beauty arsenal, however after December’s amazing box I can’t help but feel the product choices are a little safe and don’t excite me massively. I am however looking forward to trying the Benefit eyelash primer!

If you’re tempted to treat yourself to a Birchbox subscription to kick off the New Year in style you can sign up for just £12.95 per month and if you use my referral link you also get 50 points (worth £5) to spend in the Birchbox shop as a thank you.

If you’re already a Birchbox subscriber I’d love to hear what you got in your box this month and what your favourite product was!
