Birchbox – May 2016 Review

The May Birchbox has started landing on eager subscribers’ doormats, promising as always to contain a fantastic array of beauty treats.

This month’s theme is For The Dreamers and the products are housed in a beautifully designed box, which features a silver coating that you can scratch off to reveal the pattern underneath. To quote Miranda, “such fun!”

But enough of the boring introductory stuff, and let’s take a peek at the contents.

My first product is a travel sized pack of OLEHENRIKSEN the clean truth™ cleansing cloths (RRP £12 for 30). I don’t use cleansing wipes on a regular basis but when I do I try and opt for gentle, good quality ones and these sound fantastic. They feature vitamin C to brighten the complexion and are packed full of skinfriendly ingredients that do so much more than simply cleanse.

The second item is one all subscribers will receive. The Spectrum Collections Unicorn Tears Wonder Sponge (RRP £4.99) is a latex free blending sponge that you can use to apply all types of foundation. The pointed tip is perfect for the eye and nose area, while the rounded end is ideal for the forehead, cheeks and chin.

Next out of the box is a 4ml mini Eyeko Black Magic Mascara (RRP £18). The curved wand helps to curl and separate the lashes, coating them evenly with mascara that boasts 12 hour wear. I know some people think mascaras are a boring beauty box item but I love getting these minis because they’re ideal for travel and don’t tend to dry up like full size mascaras can when they’ve been open a while.

My fourth product is a 20ml travel size of the Philip Kingsley PK Prep Polishing Balm (full size RRP £18.50). The PK Prep range only launched very recently so I’m excited to try this leave-in balm, which promises to tame frizz and leave hair feeling smooth and sleek.

The penultimate item is a 15ml sample of Puriskin Resurfacing Cream for Face & Body (full size RRP £13.99). My skin really lapped up this cream, which is said to be the ultimate problem solver for both face and body. I was pleasantly surprised as I expected it to be too greasy for my oil prone complexion but it sank right in, leaving my skin feeling comfortable and hydrated. Although this isn’t the most luxurious looking of face creams this product is a little gem and I’m impressed.

A final bonus item for May is a little sample of Givenchy Live Irrésistible EDT (full size RRP £44) which is a fresh combination of fruit and floral scents. It smells absolutely delicious and is the perfect fragrance for summer.

This is a fantastic selection of beauty treats and I’m really pleased with the mix of products and the variety of brands. Beautifully curated and presented it would make a lovely gift for a loved one too, or you could simply treat yourself!

Should you be tempted by this gorgeous line-up, and who wouldn’t be, you can sign up to Birchbox for £12.95 per month and if you use my referral link you also get 50 points (worth £5) to spend in the Birchbox shop as a thank you.

If you’re already a subscriber I’d love to hear what you received in your box!

And I got the exact box too! Likewise I was pleased. Personally the switch to Hermes is an inconvenience as I was lucky to have a very good Yodal delivery guy. Hermes took much longer.

I felt the same about the change in delivery. They’re switching mine to Royal Mail so that at least I can pick it up from the depot if I’m out. Our Hermes courier is nice but only works part time and won’t leave it in safe place like Yodel did. Here’s hoping Royal Mail works out ok!

I got the same too- I was thrilled with the face wipes. I’ve used them before- they work and they smell amazing! Really keen to see if the Puriskin cream does what it says on the tin- I’ve got a few patches of discolouration left on my face (wonderful side effect of pregnancy!) that I’d love to see the back of?……

What an awesome selection of items in your UK May Birchbox and love the theme of it too! In the US boxes, our theme is get out doors with boxes inspired with Birchbox and Keds teaming up for special shoes and SPF sunscreen products in our boxes! I will be posting my findings shortly either Sunday or Monday! 🙂
