SONIC Chic Urban Toothbrush Review

Toothbrushes… it’s hard to get excited about them isn’t it? But when SONIC Chic Urban Toothbrush* entered my life I did a little “ooh” at the pretty design and compact, stylish design.

I have an electric toothbrush but if I’m honest I rarely use it because it’s heavy, cumbersome and unattractive, so 99 times out of 100 I stick with a manual toothbrush. The SONIC Chic toothbrush (RRP £19.99) however has the compact and lightweight feel of a manual toothbrush with the power of an electric toothbrush, and it looks pretty too – no excuses not to use it then!

Transformulas Hydration Gold

Over the last few years there has been a new skincare trend in town – Gold – and high end brands such as La Prairie, Carita, Orogold and Omorovicza have all been combining this precious metal into their formulations.

Gold has long been known for its anti-inflammatory properties and colloidal gold is sometimes injected by doctors to treat rheumatoid arthritis. Dermatologists and product developers began to explore the idea that this anti-inflammatory agent could be used to treat hyperpigmentation, acne and prevent the breakdown of collagen and elastin, which causes wrinkles and loss of firmness. Naturally thanks to their research gold has now become the new buzz-ingredient.

NUDE Skincare Omega Cleansing Jelly

For years I used only foaming cleansers to wash my face; with my oily and blemish prone complexion I steered well clear of oil and cream based cleansers thinking they would clog my pores and exacerbate the problem. But as I’ve gotten older and learnt more about skincare I’ve discovered that I needn’t limit my skincare routine and that sometimes an oily complexion is actually crying out for a gentler, more nourishing formula.

New CID Cosmetics i-Smoulder Smoky Eye Pencil & Shadow

New CID Cosmetics was founded by Kelly Colman, who for over a decade had listened to thousands of women in her salon sharing their thoughts on make-up, in particular how the field was dominated by too many fashion led shades and complicated application tips. The result was the development of a brand shaped around the makeup needs of real women.

The New CID Cosmetics i-Smoulder (RRP £18.50, Libbie Club price £16.65)* is just one example of their ingenious, time saving and foolproof products. This 2 in 1 eyeliner combines an eye pencil and shadow in one neat package. One end features a soft kohl pencil and the other end has a sponge applicator preloaded with a complimentary shade of eyeshadow that is hidden away in the lid.

Girl Meets Brush Review

Girl Meets Brush was created by celebrity makeup artist Lynne Mills, a 12-piece collection of makeup brushes that aim to give you that professional finish each time you work with them. The icing on the cake is that they are vegan-friendly and made with the softest synthetic hairs imaginable.

I’ve been trying out their Contour Blending Brush (RRP £13.95, Libbie Club price £11.16)* from the collection and it is an absolute dream to work with. It has a has an angled flat head with super soft bristles and is great for blending and getting a really seamless, airbrushed finish to your makeup. The handle is quite chunky which means it sits in the hand comfortably.

YOU Beauty Box July 2016

This month saw some changes to the fabulous YOU Beauty Box with the introduction of three membership levels. The regular subscription, or Bronze level, remains unchanged at £6.95 for 2 items, but there is now a Silver tier which costs £8.95 for 3 items, and Gold level costing £10.95 for 4 items.

The July shortlist is named The Jet Set Edit and suitably features some great products that would be perfect for taking on holiday. Even though I had my eye on a number of products from the shortlist I exercised some serious restraint and opted to stick with the Bronze membership.

AA Skincare Wipes

Now the warmer weather is here your thoughts, like mine, have probably turned to how you can keep yourself feeling fresh as the temperatures soars. If you’re attending a music festival, going camping, or travelling somewhere and likely to be cooped up on a train or car for several hours, then the ability for you to freshen up quickly and easily is even more important.

An obvious product to keep close at hand for such circumstances is a good cleansing wipe. Now I know some people hate them, and I would never recommend them for everyday cleansing, but for the odd occasion when time is short or bathing facilities are basic or worse, non-existent then a cleansing wipe is definitely way better than sleeping in your makeup, and AA Skincare have two fabulous options to keep you feeling clean when the mercury rises!

When I choose a cleansing wipe I like to make sure it is as skin-friendly as possible, and the wipes from AA Skincare totally tick that box with zero alcohol, parabens or artificial fragrance and packed full of natural ingredients. They’re also made of 100% biodegradable viscose making them environmentally friendly to boot.

Hempz Hydrating Bath & Body Oil

Hemp Oil is becoming increasingly popular in skincare due to the many benefits it has. The oil is a very good source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are called essential fats because they are needed to maintain healthy cell function, and applied topically it adds a protective layer to the skin, helping prevent rashes and providing relief from irritating skin conditions such as acne and eczema. Not only is hemp oil rich in essential fats, it also contains vitamins A and E – antioxidants which help to prevent or slow cell damage – and trace amounts of important minerals like potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, calcium and phosphorus.

The fats in hemp oil are very similar to those found in the skin making it a perfect choice for skincare. Being a natural product with no known adverse effects, it is ideal even for sensitive skin. Hemp oil can also bring down the redness and irritation of acne outbreaks and because it absorbs quickly and doesn’t block the pores it can actually help the skin balance oil production.

This all sounds pretty amazing, and one brand harnessing the benefits of this rich oil in its products is the US brand Hempz. One of their products is the gorgeous Hydrating Bath & Body Oil which I was sent to try recently.
