Hemp Oil is becoming increasingly popular in skincare due to the many benefits it has. The oil is a very good source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are called essential fats because they are needed to maintain healthy cell function, and applied topically it adds a protective layer to the skin, helping prevent rashes and providing relief from irritating skin conditions such as acne and eczema. Not only is hemp oil rich in essential fats, it also contains vitamins A and E – antioxidants which help to prevent or slow cell damage – and trace amounts of important minerals like potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, calcium and phosphorus.
The fats in hemp oil are very similar to those found in the skin making it a perfect choice for skincare. Being a natural product with no known adverse effects, it is ideal even for sensitive skin. Hemp oil can also bring down the redness and irritation of acne outbreaks and because it absorbs quickly and doesn’t block the pores it can actually help the skin balance oil production.
This all sounds pretty amazing, and one brand harnessing the benefits of this rich oil in its products is the US brand Hempz. One of their products is the gorgeous Hydrating Bath & Body Oil which I was sent to try recently.
As you will have already gathered from its name, Hempz Hydrating Bath & Body Oil (250ml, RRP $24.99 / £19.99)* features 100% pure Hemp Seed Oil, alongside an exclusive ‘Miracle Oil Blend’ containing Safflower Seed, Sunflower Seed Oil, Castor Seed Coconut, Sweet Almond, Jojoba Seed, Avocado and Soybean oils. Now thats a pretty exhaustive and impressive list!
The result is a silky, light-weight moisturiser that quickly sinks into the skin, sealing in moisture and leaving the body feeling smooth, conditioned, nourished, and radiant. I absolutely love the healthy sheen it gives the skin. Oh, and I must mention the fruity scent which is amazing.
As well as applying directly onto the skin you can also add the oil to your bath water for a truly skin-softening treatment.
Hempz Body Oil is Paraben-free, Gluten-free, 100% Vegan and isn’t tested on animals, so if you specifically look for cruelty free brands then Hempz ticks that box too.
If you’re a reader from the US you can purchase Hempz Body Oil from Ulta. UK customers will find it onAmazon here. Looking at the Hempz website they have quite a wide range of body care, hair care and tanning products but sadly most of them are yet to make it over to the UK yet – I do hope they launch here in the future!
