Sometimes you walk into a beauty hall and one counter stands out from the others, piquing your interest and capturing your imagination, and Kiehl’s definitely ticks that box.
When they first launched in the UK back in 2002 Kiehl’s counters were like a breath of fresh air in what had otherwise become a fairly bland marketplace. The brand draws on its long heritage, when in 1851 it launched as a single pharmacy in Manhatten, with counters that are styled to look like a vintage apothecary, lined with bottles and each one complete with its very own Mr Bones skeleton. The counter assistants wear lab coats and all the branding and packaging has a distinctive retro feel.
Since those early days when the UK had just 12 counters the brand has grown significantly with 26 standalone stores – a number it hopes to double by 2018 – and it seems only fitting to celebrate the brand’s success by featuring four of its most popular products* on my blog.
Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash (230ml, RRP £22) – Featuring Calendula, a plant renowned for its skin balancing properties, and glycerin this soap-free foaming facial wash gently lifts away impurities, dirt, and oil without stripping skin. It really does leave skin feeling clean and comfortable and with its lovely soft lather it’s a pleasure to use.
Ultra Facial Moisturiser (75ml, £15.50) – A great all rounder for all skintypes the Ultra Facial Moisturiser is one of Kiehls’ bestsellers and it’s easy to see why! The light yet effective formula features a whole load of skin-friendly ingredients such as Squalane, and vitamins A and E to leave skin beautifully hydrated, all day long. Squalane is a botanical lipid that is similar in molecular structure to natural skin lipids, meaning it is easily absorbed and suited even to oily skins.
Super Multi-Corrective Eye-Opening Serum (15ml, RRP £36) – This serum features the magic ingredient Hyaluronic Acid and promises to lift, firm, smooth, hydrate, and restore the delicate eye area, with consumer studies confirming that skin looked visibly improved in less than one week. The lightweight serum is free from parabens, mineral-oil, fragrance and colours making it suitable even for sensitive eyes.
Lip Balm #1 (15ml, RRP £9.50) – Another Kiehl’s classic, Lip Balm #1 is formulated with soothing emollients including Squalane, Lanolin and Sweet Almond Oil, as well as Vitamins A and E and Aloe Vera. Its highly moisturising blend helps to protect lips from the drying effects of wind and cold weather and replenish lost moisture.
Kiehl’s really do offer some lovely products and on counters I’ve always found their service to be fantastic, so I’d definitely recommend checking them out next time you’re near a store! Alternatively visit their website where they often offer deluxe samples with purchases.
