I love YOU Beauty Box and whilst other beauty boxes have been and gone I have been a loyal subscriber to this box for more than two years. This month’s review however very nearly didn’t happen for reasons that I’ll explain later, but after a false start I have my hands on my box (even if it wasn’t quite the box I’d hoped for).
September’s box features The Editor’s Picks, a bunch of products each of which have been selected by and have the seal of approval of YOU Beauty’s very own beauty insiders. The concept of this beauty box is simple, choose your membership level (prices start at a very affordable £6.95) and select 2, 3 or 4 products from the monthly shortlist, then sit back and wait for your goodies to arrive along with a couple of extras. So what did I pick? Read on to find out!
My first choice was the Erno Lazlo Firm & Lift Mask (RRP £14), a no brainer really as I love sheet masks. This Bio Cellulose mask is enriched with concentrated botanical extracts and essential oils, including Argan Oil to seal in moisture and Grapefruit Extract which plumps and rejuvenates, helping to fill in the appearance of fine lines. The formula is also free from Phthalates, Parabens, Petrolatum, Sulfates and Mineral Oil. The mask fits perfectly to the face allowing optimum absorption of the essence and it leaves skin looking revitalised, smooth and supple. At £14 for a single mask it’s a pricy product but boy is it good!
My next pick was a full sized Argan 5 Anti Age Hand & Nail Cream (50ml, RRP £7.99). With its blend of omega-rich Argan, Baobab, Kukui, Moringa and Sacha Inci oils, all selected for their nourishing and regenerating properties, this cream provides intense and instant hydration, evens out skin tone and protects against UV damage. Rich yet easily absorbed, it leaves both hands and nails feeling more nourished and conditioned. I love a good hand cream and this one features SPF15 which is a huge bonus.
The extras this month were a very yummy pack of Propercorn Lightly Salted popcorn and sample sachets of Indeed Labs Nanoblur and The Hero Project Hyasoft.
Other products in September’s shortlist included; MALIN+GOETZ Vitamin E Face Moisturiser (40ml), Eyeko Black Magic Mascara (4ml), Weleda Sensitive Skin Almond Body Lotion (20ml), Sanctuary Ultimate Cleansing Oil (50ml), Weleda Skin Food (30ml), Philosophy take a deep breath oil-free oxygenating gel cream (5ml), and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat.
Whilst this is a great box there were a few disgruntled YOU Beauty customers this month, myself included. You see when the boutique opened on the 1st of September two of their star products – the Inika Lip Tints – were missing from the line-up, only to be replaced with products that had already featured in previous boxes. No email was sent out advising customers of this, leaving people very disappointed when they logged on at 7am. For people that had their heart set on the lip tints or, as I had done, had upgraded their membership to get the lip tints alongside their other two products, this was really annoying.
It transpired that YOU Beauty had pulled the lip tints at the last minute because the quality wasn’t good enough, but it does beg the question why leave it so late? Why not ensure stock is received early enough in the previous month so that any stock issues can be ironed out before the shortlist is revealed? Luckily rather than cancel and not get a box at all Customer Services were happy to refund me the extra £4 I had paid to upgrade to Gold Membership, and I was able to put an order through for the two products I still wanted, so I cannot fault them on that level. I just hope that going forward the communicate better with subscribers or don’t reveal the shortlist until they have the stock and ensure it is of a suitable quality.
Fortunately YOU Beauty Customer Services managed to redeem this box for me, and despite my disappointment at not being able to try the Inika Lip Tints I still think I bagged myself a decent box for just £6.95 and I love the products I selected! I just hope there are no stock issues next month!
If you’re a subscriber I’d love to hear what you picked this month. Had you hoped to try the lip tints too?
