Ever since I was a child I’ve been fascinated with gems and semiprecious stones. Our family regularly visited Castleton in Derbyshire, taking trips down the famous Blue John caverns, and I always returned home with a new gemstone to add to my collection. Fast forward thirty years and I still love looking at gemstones, turning them in my hands and feeling their weight. Whether in their natural state, or tumbled, each stone is beautifully unique and captivating.
Today I thought I’d share with you just a few pieces from my collection of gemstone jewellery, many of which came in the Belladonna Box which I purchased a year or two ago from a lovely online shop, Noctua.
My favourite pieces in my collection are the ones featuring the natural, uncut stones. There is something about the rawness of the gems which I love, and the idea that this is exactly how they were found is somehow magical! Colourwise I really like the deep purples of Amethyst, the rich red Garnets but also the icy coolness of Clear Quartz, and the warm earthy tones of Citrine, Amber and Tigers Eye.
I really am a magpie when it comes to jewellery but there is something particularly special about gemstones because of the energies they possess. You can utilise specific stones according to your mood, your physical health, or occasion, and harness their powers to bring about change, strengthen your mind, or improve an ailment.
When looking to the healing benefits of gemstones my favourite stone to carry with me is Rose Quartz. This stone has a soothing energy, helping to lower stress, tension and anxiety. Rose Quartz also clears out anger, jealousy, and resentment. Whenever i’m anxious or worried about something I hold onto a piece of Rose Quartz and feel a sense of calm descend on me – it’s a great choice if you’re looking for a sense of wellbeing and is a stone I always keep close by.
Etsy and Ebay are fantastic places to find great value, good quality gemstones – personally however I try to avoid chinese sellers due to my concern over fakes – and you will find some really knowledgeable UK sellers that would be more than happy to answer your questions and find you your perfect piece!
What is your favourite gemstone? I’d love to hear where you buy your stones from and what you use them for!
