Spotlight on Vegan Beauty

Hands up if you have gone Vegan for January? The aim of Veganuary is to reduce the suffering of animals by inspiring and supporting people across the globe to go vegan for the month of January, and many people have signed up to ditch meat and dairy products.

Going vegan however isn’t just about what you do and don’t eat, in fact many vegans also choose to avoid animal byproducts in their cosmetics, whether its beewax, milk proteins or lanolin.

Fortunately vegan beauty has in recent years become more mainstream, with greater choice and far better accessibility than ever before, so you don’t need to compromise your beauty regime for your principles.

Founded only one year ago, Isla Apothecary blends all-natural ingredients with a truly indulgent aromatherapy experience to give you skincare and body care that not only rejuvenates the skin but enlivens the senses, and today I have the pleasure of bringing you a review of one of their gorgeous products.

The Isla Apothecary Lemongrass & Rosemary Renew Foot Scrub (RRP £21 Libbie Club price £12.60), is a lovely scrub which utilises natural ground pumice stone and epsom salts to provide a thorough, effective exfoliation. Essential oil of Rosemary has an analgesic property which eases sore, tired feet, while anti-fungal Lemongrass protects the feet and gently deodorises.

Facetox Review

As we move into Autumn and the weather turns colder complexions can lose their radiance. Harsh winds and drying central heating combine to create havoc to our skin, and if you’re also fielding the kids back to school and batting germs left, right and centre, well your skin will know it!

Facetox is to the complexion what a detox is to the body – a chance to deep cleanse, nourish and rebalance. The Facetox (7 treatments, RRP £24.99)* masks come in sachets that are designed to be mixed at home, this ensures purity of the ingredients is maintained without the need for chemical preservatives, but also when the unique blend of clay is mixed with the Rosa Damascene flower water a negative charge is created which literally ‘pulls’ the toxins from your skin. If you suffer from dullness, congestion, blackheads, acne or hormonal breakouts, Facetox is just what you need to help keep your skin in check.

Sinensis Ganoderma Gold Reviving Serum

Sinensis is a story of triumph over adversity. At every turn the creators of this high tech, natural skincare range were told that their aim – to produce a skincare range that was rich in botanical extracts and skin science extracts, incorporated Chinese herbs and was free from all potentially toxic chemicals – was impossible. Turned away by three major manufacturering partners, they finally found a company willing to help make this dream a reality, and after 3 years of extensive testing and experimentation Sinesis was born.

I was very kindly sent the Sinesis Ganoderma Gold Reviving Serum to try, and from the off I was truly excited to try this amazing sounding brand. When the serum arrived it was beautifully packaged and first impressions definitely didn’t disappoint. But really it is the contents that are the star of the show. Read on to find out more.

Hempz Hydrating Bath & Body Oil

Hemp Oil is becoming increasingly popular in skincare due to the many benefits it has. The oil is a very good source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are called essential fats because they are needed to maintain healthy cell function, and applied topically it adds a protective layer to the skin, helping prevent rashes and providing relief from irritating skin conditions such as acne and eczema. Not only is hemp oil rich in essential fats, it also contains vitamins A and E – antioxidants which help to prevent or slow cell damage – and trace amounts of important minerals like potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, calcium and phosphorus.

The fats in hemp oil are very similar to those found in the skin making it a perfect choice for skincare. Being a natural product with no known adverse effects, it is ideal even for sensitive skin. Hemp oil can also bring down the redness and irritation of acne outbreaks and because it absorbs quickly and doesn’t block the pores it can actually help the skin balance oil production.

This all sounds pretty amazing, and one brand harnessing the benefits of this rich oil in its products is the US brand Hempz. One of their products is the gorgeous Hydrating Bath & Body Oil which I was sent to try recently.

Natural skincare is something I love to feature, why bother with unnecessary artificial additives when the natural ingredients can do just as good a job? So when I was approached to try some skincare from new British brand Dominae I was very excited.

Launched in late 2015 Dominae is one of the latest in a long line of cosmetics companies that are turning their backs on harsh chemicals and unnecessary fillers, promising a more natural approach to skincare.  The 100% natural, paraben-free formulations contain many organic ingredients and are never tested on animals – fantastic if your New Years Resolution is to switch to natural beauty products!

People today are becoming increasingly aware of what goes into their beauty products, whether it’s parabens, synthetic colours or animal products, and in response to that demand many companies are ditching the chemical nasties and animal byproducts.

Nanshy is one such brand which ensures all its beauty tools are 100% vegan and approved by PETA as completely cruelty free, from their great value foundation sponge which I reviewed previously, to their high quality makeup brushes I’m featuring today.
